RECURRING BILLS

Recurring does not mean “count it twice.”

Repeating bills are useful for forecasting only when the planned occurrence and the real transaction are treated as two stages of the same obligation.

Rule, occurrence, transaction

A recurring rule describes the pattern. An occurrence represents one expected payment date. A transaction represents the actual or manually planned ledger event. Linking these stages prevents the forecast from duplicating the same bill.

Budget periods can contain two occurrences

A custom budget period may be longer than four weeks or cross calendar boundaries. A biweekly or every-other-month rule should be evaluated from its actual recurrence pattern rather than assuming one occurrence per displayed month.

Changes should have a clear scope

When a bill amount changes, decide whether the edit applies only to one occurrence or to the recurring rule going forward. That preserves historical accuracy while keeping future planning current.
